Historic Falconers

rf-Henry-VIIIs-Falconers.jpgThe reign of King Henry VIII saw English falconry experience the last of its glory days. The Tudor monarchy were passionate about hunting but none more so than Henry who was often absent from court because he had gone hawking. Henry made changes to the law to improve his hunting, he had numerous hunt lodges built near to his favourite lands, he constructed housing for his hawks and even had a near-fatal hawking accident. This golden age of falconry finally began to fade during the reign of Elizabeth I.
